DISNEY GAME COM

Move over, Olympics. Here come the Disney Channel Games!

The first annual Disney Channel Games were unveiled last year during Disney’s So Hot Summer! 2006 programming block. The Games pitted everyone’s favorite Disney Channel stars against each other.

Viewers were able to keep up with the Disney Channel Games events by checking in periodically at www.disneychannelgames.com. Right now, you can log onto www.disneychannelgames.com and “voice your choice” for one of three events to be part of the 2007 competition. The 2007 Games will either include an arm wrestling competition, rock climbing relay, or “dance dunk” event.

Viewers were able to participate in the Games at home. They could play games at the Disney website online, and award their points to the team of their choice. Because the Games were broadcast worldwide, different teams could win in each participating country. After the final points were totaled, the Blue Team and Green Team came out fairly evenly, with the Red Team coming in third in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Latin America.

Last year’s Games saw the Blue Team as the American winner. The Blue Team was composed of Brenda Song as Captain, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Cole Sprouse, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Jason Earles. Ashley Tisdale (Maddie of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) was Captain of the Green Team, and Zac Efron (of High School Musical) was Captain of the Red Team.

The Games consisted of matches each week. The stars went up against each other in an obstacle course, rock, paper scissors showdown, hamster ball relay, dunk tank, egg toss, mountain climb relay, quiz show relay, and more. Each week one person was awarded the prestige of being called the most valuable player for the match. Although the Blue Team triumphed in four of the matches, the Green Team’s Miley Cyrus (the star of Hannah Montana and the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus) was the only player to win twice.

The Games are going to be a blast this year. Make sure you go to www.disneychannelgames.com to voice your choice for an event.
