Entertainment is expensive. If you want quality entertainment, forget about it. We all work hard for our money. We should be able to have a little fun too. Luckily, the Disney website lets you download and play online games for free.
Maybe you have a preschooler at home. You can access free educational online games through Playhouse Disney’s site. When you start out, click on the link marked “grown-ups.” You can find out all about Playhouse Disney’s mission and commitment to children. The site for parents has information about upcoming events that are sponsored by Disney. Once you have explored the adults’ page, help your child explore the online games. Try the Handy Manny game “Fix-It Fetch.” Your child must maneuver Fix-It up, down, left and right so that she can fetch bouncing colored balls. This game teaches the concept of directions and tests your child’s coordination.
Do you have an active boy? Chances are he will enjoy the Jetix Games. The games are action-adventures modeled after the same type of programming shown on the Toon Disney channel. Maybe you have a daughter who is a bit more delicate. Take her to the Disney Princesses site, and let her explore the stories, games and activities there. Take a look at the Jetix and Princess Games, and you will see that there is some kind of educational value in each one.
If you are looking for a game that is a bit more complex, you can download a demo of one of the many moderately-priced games that Disney has to offer. Try “Trivia Time,” “Stitch’s Blazing Lasers,” “Pirates Pinball,” or “Zoo Vet” (my favorite—check out the gorgeous screenshots at http://disney.go.com/games/downloads). There are many more puzzle, action and arcade games, so be sure to download as many demos as you can handle. It is worth it to try the game before you purchase it.
So you see, entertainment doesn’t have to cost a lot. Help your child download some free games, or play right online. Save your money for something else that the whole family can enjoy—like a trip to Disney World!
